The Thing About Men
ImageTHE THING ABOUT MEN is a musical comedy farce with a genuine heart, offering a humorous exploration of the universal quandary ‘what do men really want?’ It ran for 222 performances Off-Broadway and premiered in London last year. Written by Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts, it’s the eagerly anticipated follow up to their hugely successful musical I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change.

The desires of two seemingly very different men and one woman are at the heart of the story. Tom, a high-flying professional, has been married for 15 years to Lucy. He has been serially unfaithful to her, but is shocked when he inadvertently discovers her one-time affair with Sebastian, a bohemian artist. Tom frantically moves to get Lucy back – he leaves home, changes his name, adopts a disguise and rents a spare room from Sebastian just to keep an eye on their passionate affair. This makes way for plenty of frantic comedy as Tom struggles to find his way back to a once happy marriage.

Celebrating Kander & Ebb

ImageArlington, VA – July 24, 2008 – Signature Theatre, under the artistic direction of Eric Schaeffer, yesterday completed the Kander & Ebb Celebration, a ground-breaking four-month festival devoted to the works of John Kander and Fred Ebb, the longest lasting song-writing partnership in the history of the American musical theater.  The company offered 187 events ranging from main stage musicals The Visit, The Happy Time, and Kiss of the Spider Woman, to cabaret performances to free film showings.  All performances took place in Signature’s new complex in the intimacy of the 299-seat MAX and 110-seat ARK Theatres, and attracted 30,559 people from 37 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and six countries including South Africa, England, and Australia.

John Kander stated, “Working at Signature Theatre has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.  It’s meant so much to me to collaborate with the talented members of the Signature family for the past few months on the Kander & Ebb Celebration.  Recreating three of the shows that Fred and I loved so dearly has been pure magic.  Producing these shows in a theater that is a fraction of the size of a Broadway house makes the Signature experience unique.  The commitment from Eric Schaeffer and his team to produce new and overlooked works requires the most work, but reaps the greatest rewards.”

A Letter from Jan van de Stool

ImageDear Fans of Jan van de Stool – International Musical Therapist,
(if your not a fan of Jan feel free to delete now…but if you like Queenie van de Zandt you could also read on…)

As you know I run courses in my local Scout Hall. Well, this year, the Year of the Scout, is the year to take my special brand of therapy to a wider peoples.  And how better than to have my very own television show?

So what I decided is to create a little video to show people how dynamic me, and my course is.  But making a video these days is a lot more pricey than it was when my husband (and cousin) Pieter and I made our wedding video!

Although my courses do very well (I have sometimes up to 13 people!) they don’t bring in the really big bikkies.  And Pieter’s cheese craft sculpture is not really a money spinner.  I did send my accompanist and tea-lady Helen out to busk, but after moving the piano from the Scout Hall to the shopping mall – she was too stuffed to play it.
